Joseph Chen

Professional Bio

Dr. Chen holds the rank of Professor at the University of Toronto. He is the Director of the Sunnybrook Cochlear Implant Program as well as the Fellowship Director of Otology & Skull Base Surgery. He serves in the capacity as the Provincial Coordinator of the Ontario Cochlear Implant Program since 2010. He directs the Inner Ear Initiative at the Sunnybrook Research Institute, overseeing two research laboratories-Sonja Koerner Regenerative Lab, and the Gord Mason Electrophysiology Lab. Dr. Chen was the past-Chief of the Department of OTL-HNS, Sunnyrbook HSC until 2017. He also served as the University’s Post-graduate Director. He received his medical education and residency training at the McGill University in Montreal, and his fellowship training with Professors Ugo Fisch and Joram Raveh of Switzerland. Dr. Chen’s research interest in recent years include quality of life & cost-effectiveness of implantable devices, precision diagnostics and therapeutics in acoustic neuromas.
